Ithorians are a species of humanoids with large,
domed heads atop sharply curving necks, commonly referred to as
"Hammerheads." The head of an Ithorian looks like it's been stretched
and bent like a ladle. Ithorians have two mouths and glossy, brown
flesh. The speaking voice of an Ithorian comes out with a weird stereo
effect, and this biological phenomenon made their speech hard to
understand. They have wide, flat feet designed to help them keep their
balance.
Culture In general, they are
devoted environmentalists, staunch herbivores, and complete pacifists.
Many have become galactic traders who peacefully travel the stars in
giant herd ships. They will only resort to violence if threatened.
Because of their mild demeanor, most Ithorians avoid the Galactic Civil
War, although a few have joined the Rebel Alliance.

Ithorians
are natives of the planet Ithor, a lush world with sprawling rain
forests. The Ithorians worship Mother Jungle and long ago vowed never
to desecrate their planet. Once they discovered repulsorlift
technology, the Ithorians built expansive "herd cities" floating in the
skies above their homeworld. The species migrated to these platforms,
ensuring that Ithor would remain pristine forever.
The people of Ithor practice a communal form of government.
Each herd is autonomous and self-supporting. Once every Ithorian season
(about five standard years), the herds gather for "the Meet." A grand
site above the surface of their green world, the herd ships would join
each other in a festival and regal ceremony.
Ithorians are gentle and peace-loving, devoting much time to
contemplating their ecology, and respecting all living things.
Ithorians are curious and gregarious, and many have found their way to
the stars. Their floating "herd" cities also have space-worthy
counterparts, traveling the space-lanes like huge caravans. Each
Ithorian herd-ship has a complex life-support system that replicates
the environment of Ithor, complete with jungles, wildlife, and even
weather patterns.
Abroad, Ithorians have integrated well with the intergalactic
community. Their own language is incredibly beautiful, yet difficult to
learn, as the Ithorians have twin mouths on opposite sides of their
necks. Fortunately, they can speak Basic, albeit with a strange accent.
Ithor Homeworld of the
Ithorians and fourth world in the Ottega System (sometimes called the
Ithorian System), Ithor was a world blockaded by the Empire during
Palpatine's reign. When the Ithorians gave the Empire certain
agricultural and cloning information, the Empire left them alone. Now,
it is a tourist destination. The natives prefer to leave their
environment as natural as possible, and have constructed huge, floating
cities. It is located in the Ottega Sector in the Lesser Plooriod
Cluster, in the Calaron Sector, and has many natural satellites. In
what became known as the Battle of Ithor, all life on the planet was
destroyed by a bacteria-filled bioweapon constructed by the Yuuzhan
Vong. After Shedao Shai was killed on the planet's surface, Deign Lian
unleashed the bacteria, which consumed all plant and animal life on
Ithor's surface. The attack was meant to destroy the bafforr trees
specifically, but the Yuuzhan Vong didn't care about any collateral
damage. Adding insult to injury, the destruction of the Legacy of
Torment by New Republic warships left the Yuuzhan Vong grand cruiser
without drive systems. It crashed into the surface of Ithor, igniting
the bacteria-filled slime and creating a series of planet-sweeping
fires. Ithor burned like a star for several days before dying out,
hanging in space like a dead cinder. Because of his part in Shedao
Shai's death, Corran Horn was quickly targeted by the news agencies as
"the man who destroyed Ithor."
